Reports indicate that Britney Spears has sold the rights to her music catalog to Primary Wave, according to Rolling Stone. The news was initially reported by TMZ.
The financial terms of the deal, including the exact scope of the sale, have not been publicly released. Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for Spears and Primary Wave for comment.
Founded in 2005, Primary Wave has been actively acquiring music rights for two decades, amassing an impressive portfolio that includes the catalogs of Bob Marley, Smokey Robinson, Prince, James Brown, and Whitney Houston. In 2020, Stevie Nicks sold her publishing rights to Primary Wave for a reported $100 million.
Spears has released nine studio albums, her last record, 2016’s Glory. Her most recent release was a 2023 single with will.i.am called “Mind Your Business.” In 2021, Spears’ 13-year conservatorship was terminated.
