Britney Spears Voices Family Trauma: 'Incredibly Lucky to Be Alive'
Britney Spears has taken to Instagram to express the ongoing trauma inflicted by her family, stating she feels "incredibly lucky to even be alive" after their past mistreatment.

Britney Spears has once again addressed her family dynamics in a poignant Instagram post on Wednesday night, revealing the deep-seated impact of their past actions. The pop star conveyed a mix of forgiveness and lingering pain, stating that while one can forgive, forgetting is impossible.
"As people, all we really want is to feel connected to each other and never feel alone … for those of you in your family that have said to help you is to isolate you and make you feel unbelievably left out … they were wrong," she wrote alongside a photograph of a child holding a parent’s hand. "We can forgive as people but u don’t ever forget. Yearning and longing for contact is always crucial !!!"
She added, "I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my life and now I’m scared of them."
Spears reflected on her family's lack of accountability regarding her conservatorship. "It’s weird how God works in mysterious ways," she wrote. "My friends, what do you think he is saying today ??? Because to be totally honest with you, no matter what he says, they will never take responsibility for what they did."
This isn't the first time Spears has publicly addressed her family issues. In December, she shared a sarcastic post alongside an image of a Christmas tree: "Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can’t fix."
In November, Spears temporarily deactivated her Instagram account following a series of responses to her ex-husband Kevin Federline's memoir, You Thought You Knew. The book detailed their relationship, including their marriage in 2004 and divorce in 2007, and included claims about Spears' behavior.
Spears also delved into her family's role in her life in her own memoir, The Woman in Me, released in 2024. The book contained bombshell revelations regarding her controversial conservatorship, which finally ended in 2021. She described the arrangement as turning her into “a sort of child-robot,” adding, “I had been so infantilized that I was losing pieces of what made me feel like myself.”
Spears also wrote about agreeing to the conservatorship to be with her children, feeling betrayed by her sister Jamie Lynn, and learning about the #FreeBritney movement while in a rehab facility.
