Caifanes' Alejandro Marcovich in Coma After Stroke: A Mexican Rock Legend's Struggle

Alejandro Marcovich, the former guitarist of the legendary Mexican band Caifanes, is currently in a coma after suffering a stroke on Tuesday, May 19th. The news was shared by his family in a statement released on social media on Friday, May 22nd.

The statement, signed by Marcovich’s wife, Gabriela Martínez, and their children Béla and Diego, revealed that the musician is in the intensive care unit with a reserved prognosis.

The 65-year-old guitarist was rushed to a hospital in Mexico City after the cerebrovascular accident (CVA). His family assures fans that he is "in good hands with specialist doctors."

Due to his condition, Marcovich will be unable to attend previously scheduled concert dates until further notice. The family expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and well wishes from fans, hoping for his swift recovery.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1960, Alejandro Marcovich has been a resident of Mexico since the 1970s, when his family sought exile following the 1976 coup d’état. He co-founded Caifanes in 1989 and remained a member until their initial disbandment in 1995, preceded by his involvement with Las Insólitas Imágenes de Aurora. Internal conflicts, particularly with vocalist Saúl Hernández, led to the band's split. However, the group reunited to the delight of fans in 2011.
