Two billion people have now journeyed to a gangsta’s paradise.

The music video for Coolio's classic 1995 hit “Gangsta’s Paradise” has officially reached 2 billion views on YouTube. This milestone marks the first video by the late rapper to achieve such a feat. The visual was directed by Antoine Fuqua, currently receiving renewed attention for his work on the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael.

“Gangsta’s Paradise,” originating from the 1995 thriller film Dangerous Minds, features vocals by singer L.V. The track served as the lead single from Coolio’s second studio album of the same name. It dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in 1995 and the album Gangsta’s Paradise spent 62 weeks on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 9.

The song topped the Hot 100 Year-End chart in 1995, and in 1996, Coolio earned his first and only Grammy for best rap solo performance, alongside two MTV Video Music Awards and a Billboard Music Award. In 2023, Billboard recognized “Gangsta’s Paradise” as one of the 500 best pop songs of all time.

"Gangsta's Paradise" experienced a resurgence in 1996 when "Weird Al" Yankovic released the parody "Amish Paradise," which has garnered millions of streams across YouTube and Spotify. Numerous artists, including Maneskin, Brittany Snow, and Falling in Reverse, have covered the original song.
