David Byrne and Stephen Colbert Set the Stage Ablaze with Fiery "Burning Down the House" Performance

In a surprising turn of events, CBS is ending The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, this Thursday, allegedly due to political pressures. However, Colbert is going out with a bang, organizing a week of special programming. Last night's (May 19) highlight: a live performance of "Burning Down the House" with David Byrne.

What started with Byrne on acoustic guitar escalated into a full-blown band performance, with Colbert joining in on vocals and dance moves. It was an electrifying moment.

Colbert and Byrne's relationship goes way back. Before the live rendition of the Talking Heads' 1983 hit from Speaking in Tongues, Byrne appeared on the show to discuss his new album, Who Is the Sky? He also performed a song back in March.

Other collaborations include a performance of an American Utopia cut in 2018, followed by a dance tutorial related to its Broadway adaptation in 2021. In 2023, Colbert even reunited all four Talking Heads members for a rare interview.

Who Is the Sky? marks Byrne's ninth studio album, created with the New York ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra. They are currently wrapping up an extensive world tour in support of the album. Byrne still has European dates ahead, including festival appearances at Roskilde, Mad Cool, and Latitude.
