DJ Screw's Iconic Mixtapes Finally Hit Streaming Platforms
The estate of the late DJ Screw is bringing his influential mixtapes to streaming services, starting with DJ Screw Originals (Volume 1). Weekly releases will continue through June.

The innovative sounds of DJ Screw are finally making their way to major streaming platforms this month. Kicking off today with the digital release of the 56-minute DJ Screw Originals (Volume 1), the DJ Screw Estate plans to drop the Houston legend’s classic mixtapes every week until the end of June. You can listen to DJ Screw Originals (Volume 1) below.
Previously, the chopped and screwed pioneer’s discography was largely confined to physical CDs and fan uploads on platforms like YouTube. In a statement to Complex, the DJ Screw Estate shared, "This is for the fans who've always known and for those discovering him now. From a local legend to a global icon, his catalogue will now be accessible everywhere keeping his legacy alive one stream at a time."
DJ Screw was instrumental in shaping Houston’s vibrant music scene during the '90s. He pioneered a distinctive, slowed-down sound by manipulating hip-hop tracks on his turntables, creating a syrupy, almost dreamlike effect. Tragically, he passed away in 2000 at the age of 29.
