Doja Cat is standing up for Chappell Roan following the pop star's recent encounter with paparazzi in Paris, a moment that quickly went viral. Doja addressed the situation in a candid TikTok video, where she also shared her own diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD).
"I love that she can be uncomfortable comfortably in front of people and protect herself and be honest,” Doja remarked. She drew a parallel between the criticism Chappell Roan faces for expressing discomfort and her own experiences managing BPD. “I had to learn how to be honest,” she added. “I love that she can do that without hurting people. She hasn’t hurt one person by being herself, and that shows that I can do the same.”
Doja also resonated with Roan’s stance on paparazzi. “To be like ‘fuck the paparazzi’ is the best way to be because fuck them,” she stated in her video. She elaborated on the culture of resellers posing as fans to obtain signatures, explaining that "artists aren’t just ignoring people because they’re full of themselves."
She concluded her video by advocating for Roan's right to have an attitude and expressed her own aspirations to do the same. "Let [Roan] have an attitude," she urged, adding that the incident inspired her: "I would love to have one as well, and I fucking will, hopefully in the future."
Doja joins the ranks of celebrities defending Roan after the incident sparked online debate. Earlier in the week, Noah Kahan also posted a video in support of the pop singer. "Maybe they should just leave her alone?" Kahan questioned. "Also those dudes saying, ‘I’m a huge fan,’ following her around are scalpers and are as bad as the paparazzi. Fuck ’em all.”
