Drake's Super Bowl Bet Backfires: The "Drake Curse" Strikes Again
Drake placed a million-dollar bet on the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl, but the Seattle Seahawks emerged victorious, adding another chapter to the infamous "Drake Curse."

The confidence of Drake is certainly something. Ahead of the Super Bowl, the rapper posted a screenshot showing a $1 million bet he placed via the Canadian crypto-betting site Stake, backing the New England Patriots to win. "Bet against me if you dare," he boldly captioned the Instagram post. Unfortunately for him, the Seattle Seahawks emerged victorious, defeating the Patriots 29-13.
A different outcome would have seen Drake pocket over $2.9 million.
This loss has been promptly added to TheDrakeCurse.com, a website dedicated to tracking the rapper's betting habits and investigating claims that he curses sports teams and athletes simply by supporting them through ambitious bets. The site claims that Drake has wagered $46.9 million across 84 bets, winning 30 and losing 54. In NFL specifically, he has placed 20 bets and turned a profit of over $680,000 despite losing 14 of those bets, according to the site.
Even if the "Drake Curse" holds some truth, the rapper doesn't appear too fazed by his losses. However, some fans would probably prefer he kept his opinions about their favorite teams to himself. Comments on Drake’s post about the Patriots bet ranged from preemptive congratulations for the Seahawks to pleas for him to delete the photo. One comment, amassing over 11,000 likes, read: “Yup we know how this goes.”
Addressing the "Drake Curse" last year in an Instagram video, Drake said, "I feel like I don’t play sports. Whether I picked the wrong team or not—if I could get out there and win for all your favorite teams, I would. The Drake Curse is funny to me, honestly.” He cited the Toronto Raptors’ championship win, which he also bet on, as evidence that he isn’t always wrong. However, he admitted that his track record isn’t perfect. “I’m sure if you’re a Drake curse believer, there will be plenty more content in the future to confirm your theories because, for whatever reason, my slips do not cash out.”
