Foo Fighters and Taylor Momsen Unleash Mariah Carey's Grunge Secret at MusiCares Gala
Foo Fighters and Taylor Momsen recently delivered a high-energy performance of tracks from Mariah Carey's previously unreleased 90s grunge album at the MusiCares Person Of The Year benefit, honoring the iconic singer.

The existence of Mariah Carey's secret '90s grunge album was first revealed in her 2020 memoir The Meaning Of Mariah Carey. In 1995, Someone's Ugly Daughter was released under the band name Chick without her lead vocals. It was inspired by Sleater-Kinney and L7 and Carey has been "on a quest" to find the version of the LP with her lead vocals intact so she could put it out; last fall she talked with SZA and Jimmy Fallon about the mission. In the meantime, Foo Fighters and Taylor Momsen teamed up to cover some of its tracks last night at the MusiCares Person Of The Year benefit gala honoring the singer.
At the Los Angeles Convention Center, the Pretty Reckless singer filled in on vocals for the Foos as they tore through songs like "Love Is A Scam" and "Demented." It was certainly the rowdiest part of the evening. Other performers at the event included Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Laufey, Adam Lambert, Charlie Puth, Kesha, Maggie Rogers, Billy Porter, and Teddy Swims.
Laufey covered "It's Like That"; Kesha took on "Obsessed"; Maggie Rogers did a rendition of "Honey"; Teddy Swims sang "Without You"; Puth performed "I Still Believe"; Legend tackled "Hero"; Lambert played "Can't Let Go."
Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Pat Smear previously performed with Momsen at a Taylor Hawkins tribute concert in 2022. (Last night Smear was seated because he recently broke his foot in a "bizarre gardening accident.") Onstage in Tasmania last weekend, Grohl revealed Foos finished work on their twelfth album "the other day."
