From Viral Brawl to Brand Deal: Ice Spice Turns McDonald's Mishap into Wendy's Gold
Ice Spice capitalizes on a viral McDonald's fight, landing a lucrative commercial deal with Wendy's, showcasing her business savvy and turning a negative into a positive.
The Bronx's own Ice Spice is proving that even a viral scuffle can be a stepping stone to success. Following the release of CCTV footage showing her in an altercation at a McDonald's in Los Angeles, the rapper has flipped the script, starring in a new Wendy’s commercial.
Last month, TMZ unveiled footage of Ice Spice in a heated confrontation at a McDonald's. The video quickly spread online, showing the rapper and a friend being approached by a woman who initiated a physical altercation.
After the incident, Ice Spice, who once worked at Wendy’s, cheekily responded on X, stating, "This wouldn’t happen at Wendy’s".
Now, she's taking that sentiment to the bank. The new Wendy’s ad features Ice Spice promoting the company’s spicy chicken sandwich. The commercial dropped Friday, May 1st.
"I heard Wendy’s upgraded their OG spicy chicken sandwich," she says in the clip. "New spicy?!". She even playfully transforms into 'Ice Spicy', sporting a new chain to match and getting a new tattoo, all while her track ‘Thootie’ plays in the background. "New upgraded spicy chicken, only at Wendy’s," she concludes. "Spice recognize spice."
Following the McDonald’s incident, Ice Spice’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, stated that they reported the unprovoked attack to the LAPD and are exploring all avenues to hold the perpetrators accountable, including examining the location's security measures.
This isn't the first time Ice Spice has been in the news for altercations. Last October, a leaked phone call revealed Cardi B threatening to beat her up.
NME gave Ice Spice’s debut album ‘Y2K!” a three-star review in 2024, noting her rapid rise and potential for growth. "It’s not a masterpiece that will silence the haters, but it’s not likely to slam the brakes on her rapid rise either... There’s room and time for her to grow yet."
