Green Day-Inspired Comedy 'Nimrods' Trailer Promises Punk-Pop Road Trip Mayhem

Get ready to hitch a ride with the Analog Dogs. The fictional punk-pop trio at the heart of the upcoming comedy Nimrods comes into focus in the new trailer for the Green Day-inspired buddy movie, set to hit theaters on August 14.

The film chronicles three friends – played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust – who embark on a raucous road trip to Los Angeles. Their mission? To open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve, a belief born from a hopeful misunderstanding. The journey is described as a "mischievous jaunt across the country filled with adventures, based on the exploits of Green Day and their years of living in a tour van."

The two-minute preview opens with the aspiring band playing a distinctly Green Day-esque tune in a basement, lamenting boredom at school and home. Their big break seems within reach as they approach the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees at a bar, sliding a demo tape in front of singer Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool.

"Anal OG Dogs?" Armstrong quips, comically misreading the label, as Tré Cool playfully jabs at the young hopefuls for including their phone number on the tape. A subsequent phone call, seemingly from Tré Cool, extends an invitation for the trio to open for his band. This sets off their cross-country odyssey in a yellow cab, promising adventures, mushroom trips, and the allure of future fame and romance.

Beyond the central trio, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Directed by Lee Kirk, Nimrods features The Office stars Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer, alongside singer/actress Mckenna Grace (Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), SNL alum Fred Armisen, comedian Bobby Lee, Keen Ruffalo (Thor: Ragnarok, Begin Again), Ignacio Diaz-Silverio (Primo, A Good Person), and Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Gilmore Girls).

Notably, Nimrods is co-produced by Green Day themselves. The film originally premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival under its initial title, New Year’s Rev.
