The Instagram post, set to the tune of Hole’s 1998 hit “Celebrity Skin,” showcased Auf der Maur dancing and smiling in front of a wall of her photographs.
Auf der Maur, who joined Hole in 1994 and departed in 1999, responded to the posts with the comment, “it starts with eternal love….” Following the initial tease, Love shared a vintage photo of herself with Auf der Maur and former guitarist Eric Erlandson at the iconic Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, taken shortly before the release of Celebrity Skin.
Living in England, Love has taken a step back from the music scene in recent years, occasionally joining Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s cover band, The Coverups, for London shows.
Both Love and Auf der Maur have individual projects underway. Love is preparing for the release of her documentary, Antiheroine, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival. Auf der Maur is releasing her memoir, Even the Good Girls Will Cry, on March 17.

Auf der Maur joined after the release of Live Through This following the death of bassist Kristen Pfaff, and played on Celebrity Skin. She did not participate in 2010's Nobody’s Daughter. In 1999, Auf der Maur briefly joined The Smashing Pumpkins and later released her self-titled solo debut in 2004, followed by Out of Our Minds in 2010.
In 2018, Auf der Maur and Love reunited to perform Hole songs at a tribute to Love held at Basilica Hudson, the venue Auf der Maur operates with her husband, filmmaker Tony Stone.
The pair reunited in the studio in 2024 for a project. In a New York Times profile, Auf der Maur revealed she spent five days in London recording vocals for Love’s upcoming album. Love praised Auf der Maur's voice, noting its robustness and unique qualities.
Love has been ambivalent about a Hole reunion. In 2021, she stated it was “just not gonna happen” to Vogue, but later hinted at a return in 2024 while performing with The Coverups in London, saying, “Later, I’ll be back in Hole.”
At this time, Eric Erlandson and Patty Schemel have not commented on Love’s posts. The last time all four members performed together was in 2012 at an after-party for Schemel’s documentary, Hit So Hard.
