Kanye West's Wireless Headline Gig Sparks Outrage Over Anti-Semitism

The Wireless festival has come under fire for booking Kanye West to headline all three nights of its 2026 edition, set to take place July 10-12 in London's Finsbury Park. This marks West's first UK performance in over a decade, and his first London festival headline set since 2014.

However, the decision has been met with strong criticism from organizations like The Jewish Leadership Council and the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism (CAA), citing the musician's past anti-Semitic remarks.

The Jewish Leadership Council labeled Wireless's decision as "deeply irresponsible," according to The Guardian.

A spokesperson stated, "It is deeply irresponsible for Wireless festival to be headlining Kanye West. The UK Jewish community is facing record levels of antisemitism... West has repeatedly used his platform to spread antisemitism and pro-Nazi messaging."

The Campaign Against Antisemitism echoed this sentiment in a statement to Far Out.

"Kanye West has dedicated years of his life to trying to incite his followers to hate Jews," the CAA spokesperson said. "He has more followers than there are Jews on Earth, so his incitement has a huge impact."

Accusations of anti-Semitism against the rapper initially surfaced in 2022 after a series of offensive social media posts, leading to suspensions from Instagram and Twitter.

Subsequently, he was dropped by his lawyer, talent agency, and record label. Brands like Balenciaga and Adidas severed ties, and public figures worldwide condemned his statements.

West later dismissed the term anti-Semitism and initially refused to apologize. In December 2022, he told Jewish people to "forgive Hitler."

He issued an apology to the Jewish community in 2023 and later blamed alcohol for his comments.

Numerous lawsuits have been filed against him over the years. Allegations include claims that West stated Jewish people were hindering him and praised Hitler.

In early 2025, he retracted his apology to the Jewish community and declared himself "a Nazi," later claiming he'd realized he wasn't a Nazi, followed by more swastika apparel appearing on his X page.

Last November, West apologized for his anti-Semitic comments during a meeting with a rabbi. In January, he took out a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal to apologize, clarifying that it wasn't for album promotion or career revival. He also discussed his bipolar type-1 diagnosis.

The Wireless announcement coincides with the release of West's 12th studio album and a launch show in Los Angeles, followed by European dates.

His new album, 'Bully' features Travis Scott. West claims there was no AI used in its creation. Since the album's release, collaborator James Blake has requested his name be removed from the producer credits, stating the final result is not what he created.
