Karol G Makes Coachella History as First Latina Headliner
Karol G shattered barriers at Coachella, becoming the first Latina artist to headline the festival in its 25-year run. Her performance was a vibrant celebration of Latin culture and a testament to the community's resilience.

After a half-hour delay, the show quickly launched into a massive production that included a giant mariachi, abundant pyrotechnics, and guests Mariah Angeliq, Becky G, and Wisin of Wisin y Yandel. Karol G acknowledged the gravity of the occasion in a speech: “Before me, there were so many great Latin artists, legendary Latino artists, that gave me the opportunity to be here tonight,” she said. “So this is not just about me. This is about my Latina community; this is about my people. And at the same time, this is for my Latinos that have been struggling in this country lately. We stand for them, I stand for my Latina community, and at the same time I am very proud because this brings out the best in us: unity, resilience, a strong spirit.”
This was not Karol’s first time performing at the festival. She first graced the dusty Indio grounds back in 2022 with a star-studded set that included J Balvin and Becky G. Earlier this year, Karol appeared during Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.
Karol G’s latest album in a string of blockbuster hits was last year’s Tropicoqueta, the follow-up to her Grammy-winning Mañana Será Bonito. In 2023, the latter record became the first Spanish-language album by a woman to top the Billboard 200. She also released a single with Tainy, “Uniqa,” last year.
