Kylie Minogue Addresses Madonna Collaboration Rumors, Drops New Song 'Light Up'

Kylie Minogue has finally addressed swirling rumors regarding a possible feature on Madonna’s highly anticipated album, Confessions II. The Queen of Pop is slated to drop her 15th studio LP on July 3, a project touted as a spiritual successor to 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor, fueling speculation about a collaboration between the two iconic singers.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times about her new Netflix documentary, Kylie, Minogue put the rumors to rest. “That’s a random thing. There was a rumor I was on her album, but I’m not — I’m excited to hear it, all.”

However, Minogue confirmed the release of new music of her own. “There’s a new song called ‘Light Up’ that lives perfectly within the documentary,” she said. “It’s not a ‘Padam,’ but it’s got a lot of heart.”

She elaborated on the inspiration behind “Light Up”: “Initially, I was thinking about my mom… I was writing about when you’re struggling, whether you’re a child or a grown-up, and someone who loves you will look into your eyes and, like a manga cartoon, you kind of zoom in and you see this world of possibility... When you’re lost, helpless or glassy-eyed, someone who can see in you what you can’t see can light you up, and you can get through that moment.”

She continued, explaining the song's message of hope and resilience: “You can get out on stage and do that thing that you’re supposed to do when everything feels like you couldn’t do it, so it’s like parental love, friendship love, can spread to audience love. Because they will give you the strength to go out and have those moments to share. It’s a beautiful thing.”

The paths of Minogue and Madonna crossed in 2024 when they shared the stage at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles during Madonna’s Celebration Tour. The duo performed memorable duets of Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” in honor of International Women’s Day.

The year before this iconic performance, Minogue playfully acknowledged the potential impact of a joint performance with Madonna: “She’s going on tour. I don’t have Madonna’s number but if I was in town and she was in town, it would be amazing,” she told 103.5 KTU. “The building would probably fall down. We’d need to send out warnings!”

Madonna has already released two tracks from Confessions II: “I Feel So Free” and “Bring Your Love,” the latter being a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter.
