Labrinth Exits 'Euphoria' Season 3, Hans Zimmer Takes Over: Behind the Scenes Drama
Labrinth reveals why his music won't be featured in 'Euphoria' Season 3, citing industry dishonesty and creative differences, as Hans Zimmer steps in as the sole composer.

Labrinth has spoken out about his decision to remove his music from the highly anticipated third season of Euphoria. The news comes as a surprise to many, considering his integral role in shaping the show's sonic landscape since its debut.
The British singer and producer took to his Instagram Stories on Saturday, April 11th, to address his absence from the HBO series, which is set to premiere its new season on Sunday, April 12th. His message was direct and impassioned:
"PEOPLE WILL COMFORTABLE LIE IN THIS INDUSTRY AND STILL CALL THEMSELVES HONEST PEOPLE," Labrinth wrote in all caps. "SO NO CAP. I DECIDED TO REMOVE WHAT EVER MUSIC I HAD IN IT."
This announcement follows the confirmation that Oscar winner Hans Zimmer will be the sole composer for Euphoria's upcoming eight episodes. The new season will jump forward five years from where the previous season ended. Zimmer was initially slated to collaborate with Labrinth on the show's score.
Labrinth further explained his decision: “I SPOKE TO HBO AS FAR I KNOW WE ARE COOL,” Labrinth continued. “I LEFT BECAUSE. LAST TRUTH. WHEN I WORK FOR SOMEONE, THEIR VISION IS PARAMOUNT TO ME. BUT I DON’T LET PEOPLE TREAT ME LIKE S—T.”
This isn't the first instance of Labrinth expressing his frustrations with the music industry via social media. In mid-March, he criticized his record label, Columbia, and even the Euphoria series itself in a now-deleted post, stating, “I’M DONE WITH THIS INDUSTRY / F—K COLUMBIA / DOUBLE F–K EUPHORIA / I’M OUT.”
Euphoria creator and executive producer Sam Levinson addressed the situation, telling Rolling Stone, “I don’t know... He’s an incredible collaborator and someone who really built the foundation of the sound of Euphoria.”
Levinson elaborated on why Zimmer is a fitting choice for Season 3, noting, “On Euphoria, each character’s storyline is like its own film in a way.”
Labrinth's contribution to Euphoria has been significant, serving as the lead score producer since its inception in 2019. Before his work on Euphoria and his time with Columbia Records, he was signed to Simon Cowell’s label, Syco, where he released two albums. Since his debut in 2010, Labrinth has achieved seven entries on the Billboard Hot 100, including a collaboration with Euphoria star Zendaya.
Labrinth is scheduled to perform on the outdoor stage at Coachella on Saturday, April 11th.
