Loraine James is releasing a new album. Out May 8 on Hyperdub, Detached From the Rest of You features Alan Sparhawk, Tirzah, Anysia Kym, and Miho Hatori, among others. Today, James has also shared the song “In a Rut” with vocalist Sydney Spann; you can listen to that below.
Detached From the Rest of You marks James’ first LP under her own name since 2023’s Gentle Confrontation. In press materials, the British artist described the record (lightly facetiously) as her “IDM pop star album,” sharing: “I’m using my voice a lot more, and putting it higher in the mix than I usually would. I guess I’m growing some confidence.”
Since dropping Gentle Confrontation, James has collaborated with Purelink, Kelela, and Yaeji. Last year, she released Whatever the Weather II, the second record under her ambient-focused alias Whatever the Weather.
