Madonna Returns to Acting with Guest Role in Apple TV+'s 'The Studio'

Madonna is stepping back into the acting world, this time on the small screen.

The pop legend was recently spotted in Venice on the set of the Apple TV original series The Studio, a 13-time Emmy-winning comedy co-created by Seth Rogen, who also stars as the lead character, Matt Remick. The show centers on Remick, the new head of a struggling film production company, as he navigates reviving the business while staying true to his aspirations for the industry.

Season 1 featured a star-studded cast including Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Kathryn Hahn, Bryan Cranston, and the late Catherine O’Hara. While the specifics of Madonna's role remain under wraps, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed her upcoming appearance.

Referencing her work in Europe, Madonna posted a photo on her Instagram Story of herself reading a script inside a glass-top boat, captioned “The Italian job,” with a strategically placed heart emoji obscuring the dialogue.

Her role on The Studio marks Madonna's first live-action acting role in over 20 years. Her last live-action film appearance was in the 2002 romantic comedy Swept Away, where she starred alongside Adriano Giannini. She also made a cameo on the TV series Will & Grace in 2003.

While she hasn't been actively acting, Madonna has remained involved in Hollywood. In 2020, she announced plans for a biopic about her life. Julia Garner was initially slated to portray the Queen of Pop, but the project was put on hold in 2023 as Madonna focused on her Celebration Tour. The highly successful 81-stop tour, celebrating her 40-year career, grossed over $200 million and culminated in a record-breaking free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, where she performed for over 1.6 million fans. Following the tour's conclusion in 2024, Madonna hinted at a possible return to the biopic project.
