Madonna, Shakira, and BTS to Headline Inaugural World Cup Halftime Show
Madonna, Shakira, and BTS are set to electrify the MetLife Stadium stage for the first-ever World Cup halftime show, a collaboration between Global Citizen and Chris Martin of Coldplay.

The FIFA World Cup is about to get a whole lot more spectacular. Madonna, Shakira, and BTS will grace the MetLife Stadium stage on July 19 for the inaugural halftime show during the World Cup final. This landmark event is the fruit of a four-year partnership between Global Citizen and FIFA, initially announced at Global Citizen's annual New York festival in 2024.
Chris Martin, the frontman of Coldplay and a dedicated Global Citizen advocate, curated this year's lineup. He even enlisted Sesame Street characters to assist with the announcement. Given Martin's history of surprise guest appearances, don't be surprised if he joins the performance himself.
The buildup to this announcement has already seen FIFA unveil multiple shows, signaling a strategic shift towards Super Bowl-style entertainment at the soccer tournament. The opening ceremony promises to be a star-studded affair, featuring performances by Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, and Lisa. Recently, Shakira also released an official World Cup anthem, “Dai Dai,” adding to her catalog since her 2023 tax evasion admission.
Last year's FIFA Club World Cup served as a testing ground for this new halftime format, featuring Doja Cat, Tems, and J Balvin. These events support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, dedicated to improving access to education and soccer for children worldwide.
