The U.S. team clinched a dramatic victory against Bublé's beloved Canadian team on Sunday (Feb. 22) when Jack Hughes scored the golden goal in overtime.
In the spirit of the games, British Columbia native and crooner Michael Bublé shared kind words for both the Canadian hockey team and their rivals, the U.S. squad. This came after the American NHL all-stars secured a 2-1 overtime win to claim the gold medal at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

“First off, I would like to congratulate Team Canada, all the members, coaches, players who worked so hard and made us so proud,” Bublé stated in a video, sporting the iconic Team Canada jersey. He expressed his pride in watching his team, mentioning he woke up at 5 a.m. to watch the live feed from Italy, a fact confirmed by his children off-camera.

“Well, obviously, we were all, you know, disappointed,” he admitted about the loss to the U.S. team, who hadn't won Olympic gold in men’s hockey since the 1980 “miracle on ice.” Bublé added, “we hoped for the gold. We’d also like to congratulate Team U.S.A and our brothers and sisters across the border. We love each other. We’re family, you know?” He noted that the thrilling showdown was great for the game, offering an olive branch, seemingly a pointed rejoinder to the previous administration.
“Even though it hurts me to say [it] ‘Congratulations U.S.A.,'” Bublé said cheerfully, encouraging his kids to repeat the sentiment. “OK, now we got a rivalry, a great rivalry and next time it’s ours.” This victory followed the women’s team's gold medal win on Thursday, also a 2-1 OT victory over Canada. The U.S. women's team has a strong Olympic history, securing three gold, four silver, and one bronze since women’s hockey debuted in 1998.
