My Chemical Romance Teases Potential Theater Project with John Cameron Mitchell

It's safe to say that My Chemical Romance was one of the most theatrical bands of the '00s emo boom, with perhaps Panic! At The Disco as their only real competition. Following the success of Green Day's American Idiot on Broadway, it's not hard to imagine The Black Parade, MCR's mega-successful punk concept album from 2006, adapted for the stage. MCR's tours behind that album were already quite theatrical, and now it seems a full-blown theater spectacle might be in the works.

According to Broadway World, John Cameron Mitchell, the writer, director, and star of Hedwig And The Angry Inch and a veteran of punk-adjacent musical theater, has stated that he's collaborating with My Chemical Romance, who have reunited and are currently touring stadiums, on a "project for theater". Mitchell appeared on Bob The Drag Queen's Only Child podcast where he offered a tantalizing hint:

> It's a little secret. It's not announced yet, but you know I'm gonna give you a little zzzt there. That's all you're getting. And you know, we still gotta sign stuff, but they're great people. They're so luxurious now that they do one [show] a week.

John Cameron Mitchell and My Chemical Romance share a certain glam-punk sensibility, making a collaboration plausible. Of course, publicly discussing a secret project might jeopardize it, but who knows? This could evolve into something truly spectacular.
