Nine Inch Nails Snags Grammy, Dusts Off Rare Track in New Orleans Tour Kickoff
Nine Inch Nails (NIN) wins a Grammy for 'As Alive As You Need Me To Be' and performs 'Non-Entity' live for the first time in 17 years during their Peel It Back tour kickoff in New Orleans.
Nine Inch Nails kicked off the next leg of their incredible Peel It Back tour Thursday at the Smoothie King Center in Trent Reznor's former home base of New Orleans — but not before winning a Grammy.
During Sunday's pre-show, "As Alive As You Need Me To Be," NIN's single from the Tron: Ares soundtrack, was named Best Rock Song, prevailing over fellow nominees Hayley Williams, Turnstile, Sleep Token, and Yungblud. It was Nine Inch Nails' first Grammy win since 1996, when their performance of Broken track "Happiness in Slavery" from the Woodstock '94 compilation was named Best Metal Performance. They were nominated 10 times in between without a win. "As Alive As You Need Me To Be" was also up for Best Song Written For Visual Media, but it lost to the KPop Demon Hunters jam "Golden."
Speaking of years-long gaps: Not long into the New Orleans show, NIN busted out with With Teeth outtake "Non-Entity" for the first time in 17 years. The band's official Instagram account posted grainy footage of the moment, which you can watch below.
According to NIN's post, the show also marked the debut of Dub Trio's Stu "Bassie" Brooks on bass. Brooks previously played with NIN drummer Josh Freese in Danny Elfman's live band.
