Paul McCartney Announces New Album 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane', Shares Nostalgic Single "Days We Left Behind"

Paul McCartney is gearing up to release his new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. The LP, crafted in collaboration with producer Andrew Watt, is slated for release on May 29 via MPL/Capitol. The first single from the album, "Days We Left Behind,” is available now.

In a press release, McCartney describes the album as an autobiographical journey, delving into his formative years in post-war Liverpool. Regarding the single, he shared, “This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It’s just a lot of memories of Liverpool. It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class. We didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”

Macca’s previous album, McCartney III, was released in 2020, followed by a remix album, McCartney III Imagined, a year later, featuring collaborations with artists like Beck, Phoebe Bridgers, and Dev Hynes.

As is typical with the legendary Beatle, archival releases have been frequent, including a singles box set, an anniversary reissue of Wings’ Band on the Run, and the release of the previously shelved 1974 sessions known as One Hand Clapping. More recently, a book and documentary about Wings have solidified the band’s place in music history, as McCartney continues to tour extensively around the world.
