Paul McCartney Takes Over 'SNL': A Night of Beatles, Classics, and Comedy

The season finale of SNL was a true celebration of Paul McCartney, with the Beatles legend taking center stage. Hosted by Will Ferrell, the episode featured not only three musical performances by McCartney – an upgrade from the usual two – but also appearances in the opening monologue and a hilarious sketch.

This marked Paul McCartney's fifth time as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live, his return to the iconic stage coming over a decade after his last appearance. His previous bookings were in 1980, 1993, 2010 and 2012.

He kicked off the musical portion of the night with "Days We Left Behind," the lead single from his new album The Boys of Dungeon Lane.

Next up was a vibrant rendition of "Band on the Run", the 1974 hit by Paul McCartney and Wings, which famously topped the Billboard Hot 100.

But the musical performances were just part of McCartney's extensive presence. He joined Will Ferrell's monologue, playfully mimicking Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Later, he starred in a sketch with Ferrell and Marcello Hernández, portraying mechanics engaging in some less-than-honest practices.

Just when viewers thought the night was over, McCartney returned for a surprise encore, launching into his 1980 chart-topper "Coming Up" as the SNL cast danced along.
