Peabo Bryson, 'Beauty and the Beast' Singer, Reportedly Suffers Stroke
Peabo Bryson, the acclaimed voice behind Disney's iconic songs such as "Beauty and the Beast" and "A Whole New World," has reportedly suffered a stroke and is currently receiving medical care.
Peabo Bryson, celebrated for his velvety vocals on Academy Award-winning Disney tracks like “Beauty and the Beast” with Celine Dion and “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme)” with Regina Belle, has suffered a stroke. He is under medical supervision, and further details are currently unavailable.
A representative for Bryson released a statement to Billboard, saying, “At this time, the family requests privacy as they navigate this deeply personal moment together. The thoughts, prayers and love of friends and fans are welcomed and deeply appreciated.”
These songs, reaching No. 9 and No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 respectively, also garnered Bryson two Grammy Awards for best pop performance by a duo or group with vocals. He achieved his breakthrough in 1978 with the top 10 R&B single “Reaching for the Sky.”
Throughout his career, he has accumulated a series of R&B classics including “Feel the Fire,” “I’m So Into You,” “Let the Feeling Flow,” “All My Love,” and “Closer Than Close,” along with two No. 1 hits: “Show & Tell” and “Can You Stop the Rain.” In 1984, Bryson secured his first top 10 pop entry with “If Every You’re in My Arms Again” (No. 6 R&B).
His extensive discography includes notable duets with female artists such as “Gimme Some Time” with Natalie Cole, “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love” and “Make the World Stand Still” with Roberta Flack, and “Lovers After All” with Melissa Manchester. Before “A Whole New World,” Bryson and Belle collaborated on the top 15 R&B hit “Without You” in 1987.
