Peter Frampton Announces First Album of Original Music in 16 Years, 'Carry the Light'

Peter Frampton is making a comeback with his new album, Carry the Light, slated for release on May 15. This marks his first collection of original material in 16 years, since 2010's Thank You Mr. Churchill.

The album boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators. The lead single, "Buried Treasure," is a heartfelt tribute to Tom Petty, released alongside the album announcement.

Frampton shared his excitement on Instagram, stating, "This record is a very special one for me. I got to write and produce it with my son Julian, as well as work with some wonderful friends along the way."

Among the featured artists are Sheryl Crow, lending her vocals to "Breaking the Mold," and H.E.R., who showcases her guitar skills on "Islamorada." Tom Morello makes a fitting appearance on "Lions at the Gate," described as a powerful "protest song."

The album also includes contributions from Graham Nash on "I'm Sorry Elle," Benmont Tench on "Buried Treasure," and saxophonist Bill Evans on "Can You Take Me There" and "Tinderbox."

Frampton's last studio album, Thank You Mr. Churchill, released in 2010, charted on the Billboard 200, where he has had a total of 14 entries. His 1976 live album, Frampton Comes Alive!, famously held the No. 1 spot for 10 weeks.

This new project arrives after Frampton's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024. He also attended the previous year's ceremony, performing alongside fellow inductee Sheryl Crow – an event that also saw Morello accepting an induction on behalf of Rage Against the Machine.

Frampton credited Crow with boosting his Rock Hall nomination. "[Sheryl] stirred the pot big-time and made people aware — including some of the board members, I think,” Frampton told Billboard in 2024. “They thought I was already in.”
