Philipp Jung, the German DJ and producer renowned for his work with electronic duo M.A.N.D.Y. and the influential Get Physical label, has died. The news was shared on May 20th by British DJ Damian Lazarus, a former Get Physical artist, who noted Jung's age as 55. Tributes have since appeared on Jung’s personal Facebook page and the label's Instagram accounts. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Jung's career began in the 1990s in A&R before he partnered with his childhood friend Patrick Bodmer to create M.A.N.D.Y. and Get Physical in the early 2000s. Together with DJ T., and Booka Shade’s Arno Kammermeier and Walter Merziger, they aimed to cultivate a close-knit community of artists, focusing on "song-oriented dance music" suitable for both intimate settings and vibrant clubs. In 2005, DJ Mag recognized Get Physical as the label of the year.

In an interview with Fifteen Questions, Jung reflected on the collaborative spirit that fueled their success: “Not to romanticise it too much, but there was this energy you can’t really explain when a bunch of nerds and friends put their heads together just to create something.” Landmark releases, such as M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade’s remix of Laurie Anderson’s “O Superman” and Samim’s “Heater,” achieved crossover success. The label carved out a unique space between minimal and tech-house, leaving a lasting impact on the electronic music scene.

Beyond his work with Get Physical and its sister label Kindisch, Jung launched the Metaphysical imprint in 2020. He continued to release his own music, including a compilation of remixes this past March. In recent interviews, he shared his move from Berlin to the mountains of Costa Rica and his anticipation of becoming a father. He expressed his enduring passion for music, stating, “I still believe music is the highest form of art because it never reveals its final secret... You never fully understand why something moves you so deeply—why it makes you laugh or cry. So I’ll keep doing it and patiently wait for those moments to appear again.”

Remembering Jung, his associated labels wrote on Instagram, “With Philipp, we lose a truly special person whose warmth, care, and passion will never be forgotten. As co-founder of Get Physical, he not only built a label, but also created a place for creativity and community... Through his dedication, openness, and unwavering belief in creative freedom, he inspired people and created spaces where music could bring people together.”
