Steven Spielberg Achieves EGOT Status with Grammy Win for 'Music By John Williams'
Steven Spielberg clinches his first Grammy, achieving coveted EGOT status as a producer for 'Music By John Williams,' a documentary celebrating the legendary composer.
Steven Spielberg has officially entered the EGOT winner's circle, securing his first-ever Grammy Award! This monumental achievement solidifies his status as one of the most accomplished figures in entertainment history.
The legendary director earned the prize at tonight's Grammy ceremony in Los Angeles as a producer of the documentary film Music By John Williams, which won Best Music Film.
The film delves into the extraordinary life and career of Spielberg's longtime composer and collaborator, Williams, celebrated for his iconic scores in films like E.T., Jaws, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and Schindler’s List, among countless others.
This Grammy win places Spielberg among the elite ranks of competitive EGOT winners. He already boasts multiple Oscars and Emmys, in addition to his 2022 Tony Award for Best Musical for producing A Strange Loop.
Other luminaries who have achieved EGOT status include Elton John, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Whoopi Goldberg, Mel Brooks, Audrey Hepburn, and John Gielgud.
While Spielberg wasn't present to accept the Grammy, the film’s director Laurent Bouzereau expressed gratitude to Spielberg for his contribution in telling the story of one of the greatest musical voices of our time.
Spielberg is also in contention for another Oscar as a producer on Chloe Zhao’s emotional drama Hamnet, which has garnered several Academy Award nominations. He has lauded Zhao, stating: “I really believe the earth has a heartbeat. It’s a 24/7 seismic cycle, and all of us are connected to this heartbeat, which happens right under our feet. But Chloé Zhao is connected to it in a profound way because it’s where her art comes from.”
Williams, now 93, has hinted at retirement in recent years but returned to score Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny in 2022. Furthermore, it’s confirmed that he will reunite with Spielberg for his upcoming film, Disclosure Day.
