Taylor Swift made headlines courtside at Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday. The global superstar, known for her evolving presence in the sports world, was there to support the New York Knicks as they faced the San Antonio Spurs. She arrived sporting a distinctive "Stevie Knicks" tee, accompanied by Alana Haim and Este Haim.
This isn't Swift's first foray into the basketball arena. She was a regular fixture at Knicks games in the mid-2010s. More recently, in May, she and her fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce, were seen courtside at the Eastern Conference Finals, where the Knicks played the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Kelce himself acknowledged Swift's particular loyalty to the team. On his New Heights podcast in May, he remarked, "Not a lot of teams have been able to get Taylor to wear a jersey, and the Knicks did." He elaborated on her connection: "Tay’s got a lot of New York ties, so when it came down to like going to the Cavs game, she was kinda like, ‘Oh nice, they’re playing the Knicks, like sweet! I’ve seen them play before.'" (It's worth noting Kelce, with his Ohio roots, was actually rooting for the Cavaliers that night.)
Her allegiance runs deep. In a 2014 interview with Time, Swift declared herself "totally" a Knicks fan after moving to New York. Even when the interviewer pointed out the team's struggles, she was unfazed: "I love them, though," she stated. "Why does that matter?"
She attributed her "sparkly, magical opinion" of the Knicks and Madison Square Garden to two key factors: her admiration for former player Amar’e Stoudemire and a formative experience performing at the Knicks' Kids Talent Competition at halftime when she was just 12 or 13.
Beyond basketball, Swift has cemented her status as a prominent sports enthusiast. Her relationship with Kelce has seen her become a regular fixture at Kansas City Chiefs games. The power couple also attended the first game of the AL Championship Series at Yankee Stadium in 2024, further solidifying her widespread engagement with the sporting world.
Swift wasn't the only celebrity in attendance at the Finals. The past week has seen a constellation of stars courtside, including Timothée Chalamet, Ben Stiller, Tina Fey, and Tracy Morgan. Even former President Donald Trump made an appearance, notably receiving a chorus of boos.
