The Rolling Stones officially announced their new album Foreign Tongues and shared its lead single "In The Stars" today. A few hours later, they were onstage with Conan O'Brien at an album launch event inside the Williamsburgh Savings Bank building in Brooklyn. Our own Scott Lapatine was on hand, chilling with Jason Isbell and gathering news.

During the conversation, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood discussed the new album’s high-profile features, including Paul McCartney of the Stones' British Invasion peers the Beatles, who has his own new record coming soon (and a Ringo Starr duet dropping this Friday). McCartney participated in the sessions for 2023's Hackney Diamonds, and some of those recordings made their way to Foreign Tongues.

Also on the new LP are the Cure's Robert Smith (who Jagger had never met before), Steve Winwood, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith. Though Steve Jordan is the main drummer, the late Charlie Watts appears on the album via tracks recorded in 2021. Past collaborators Darryl Jones and Matt Clifford appear as well.

O'Brien said he's heard Foreign Tongues about 25 times, noting that it "kicks ass" and parts of it remind him of Exile On Main Street. Complimenting producer Andrew Watt, O'Brien joked that this record is going to be the Stones' breakthrough. Jagger commented on Nathaniel Mary Quinn’s eye-catching cover for the project, bragging that it was not computer-generated, and the artist spoke about it from the audience.

The Stones also previewed the “In the Stars” music video featuring actress Odessa A’zion, who was also in attendance, and after the Q&A played back a few songs including “Mr. Charm” and “Jealous Lover.”

Today, after weeks of teasing, @The Rolling Stones officially announced ‘Foreign Tongues,’ out 7/10 via Capitol. They recorded the album with Andrew Watt, who produced their last LP ‘Hackney Diamonds,’ and the single "In The Stars” is out now. This afternoon Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood sat for an interview with Conan O’Brien, and revealed the album features contributions from @Paul McCartney, @The Cure’s Robert Smith, Steve Winwood, and late Stones drummer Charlie Watts. They played back three new songs for media and invited guests including Leonardo DiCaprio and Jason Isbell. #RollingStones #PaulMcCartney #MickJagger #KeithRichards #theCure
