The Snuts Return with 'Summer Rain,' a Powerful Track Addressing Postnatal Depression

Scottish indie rock band The Snuts have unveiled their latest single, 'Summer Rain,' a poignant and powerful track that delves into the often-unspoken realities of postnatal depression and the uncertainties of what lies ahead.

This release marks the band's first new material since 2024, signaling the start of a fresh chapter for the West Lothian natives. 'Summer Rain' emerged from a period of reconnection with their roots and navigating personal challenges, which they channeled into their music.

According to frontman Jack Cochrane, the song directly confronts the issue of postnatal depression, a condition affecting many worldwide but rarely explored in music.

"My wife was struggling really badly with postnatal depression," he revealed. "We had a kid when the band had just released our third album and were on tour. That’s way too much to be doing with a newborn."

He further explained that the lyrics capture the jarring transition from touring life to the demands of parenthood. "I thought that I could just fix it – that’s a classic man thing – then I had to actually grow up," he admitted. "Lyrically, the song expresses the impact of change and the fear of the future, but also a willingness or plea to restart and claim back functional happiness."

Despite the serious subject matter, 'Summer Rain' carries an undercurrent of hope, reflected in the accompanying music video. Directed by filmmaker Charles Gall, the video was filmed in a scenic Scottish woodland and on a nearby beach.

'Summer Rain' offers a glimpse into The Snuts' forthcoming fourth studio album, expected later this year via their own label, Happy Artist, in partnership with Virgin Music Group. Details about the album are still under wraps.

In support of the new music, The Snuts will embark on a UK tour, commencing at the Engine Shed in Lincoln on March 12. The tour will continue throughout the month, hitting cities like Leicester, Frome, and Brighton.

The tour culminates with shows at the O2 Academy in Oxford on March 20 and the Pyramid and Parr Hall in Warrington on March 22. Tickets are available here.
