Ty Segall is not one to rest on his laurels, a veritable rock 'n' roll factory constantly churning out new sonic explorations. It comes as no surprise, then, that this summer will see the prolific artist deliver a double dose of fresh material: a new full-length album, Chrome, and an accompanying EP, Love Fuzzz. For enthusiasts of his raw, relentless energy, this news is nothing short of a triumph.
Last year, Segall graced us with the solo LP Possession, and has since lent his distinctive touch to projects by artists like Upchuck and White Fence. Now, he's reassembled his formidable band, ready to unleash a fresh wave of their signature riffs and kaleidoscopic soundscapes.
Chrome sees Segall collaborating with his trusted circle: singer/guitarist Emmett Kelly, singer/bassist Mikal Cronin, singer/keyboardist Ben Boye, and drummer Evan Burrows. This collective spirit is evident, with half the album's tracks being co-written by the full band, and several more co-penned with Kelly. Additional creative input came from Matt Yoka and Denée Segall, further enriching the album's sonic tapestry.
Alongside the album, fans can look forward to Love Fuzzz, a two-song 7-inch derived from the Chrome sessions. The title track offers a reimagined version of "Love Fuzz" from Segall's revered 2012 album, Twins. Its B-side, "My Pet Guru," is rumored to delve into "krautrock shit," promising a rhythmic, experimental journey.
The first taste of Chrome arrives with "Black Paint," a triumphantly catchy riff-bomb that demands head-banging and hair-shaking. The accompanying video, shot by director Alex Bulli across multiple Segall live shows, perfectly captures the unbridled intensity of his performances.
This summer promises to be a busy one for Ty Segall and his band, with a string of tour dates across North America and Europe. From intimate solo acoustic sets to electrifying festival appearances and club shows, there are ample opportunities to experience the raw power of these new tracks live.
