U2 Drops Surprise 'Easter Lily' EP, Reflects on Faith and Friendship
U2 surprises fans with a new EP, 'Easter Lily,' featuring six songs and a reflection on personal relationships and faith in challenging times. The EP is accompanied by a digital version of their 'Propaganda' zine.
U2 continues to surprise fans! Hot on the heels of their recent Days Of Ash EP featuring Ed Sheeran, the band has dropped another unexpected release: U2 - Easter Lily.
This new EP features six tracks, including a soundscape collaboration with Brian Eno on the final song.
According to Bono, the band is currently in the studio working towards a "noisy, messy, 'unreasonably colorful' album" intended for live performance. He describes these times as "wilderness years," inspiring the band to delve deeper into their lives for songwriting.
Bono reflects on the themes explored in Easter Lily, questioning the strength of relationships, the fight for friendship, and the survival of faith amidst societal challenges. He also nods to Patti Smith's album Easter, which offered him hope upon its release in 1978.
Like Days Of Ash, U2 - Easter Lily includes a digital version of their Propaganda zine, featuring contributions from all four band members. The opening track, "Song for Hal," serves as a tribute to Hal Willner, with whom U2 collaborated on various projects. The release coincides with what would have been Willner's 70th birthday on Easter Monday.
