UK Bans Kanye West: Home Office Cites 'Public Good' Concerns Amid Wireless Festival Controversy
The UK Home Office has barred Kanye West from entering the country, citing concerns over his 'public good' conduct, following heated debates surrounding his booking at Wireless Festival.

The UK Home Office has officially banned Kanye West from entering the United Kingdom. The decision comes after weeks of intense debate surrounding the rapper's scheduled performance at Wireless Festival. According to the BBC, Ye's Electronic Travel Authorisation application was denied on the grounds that his presence would not be "conducive to the public good."
Following the decision, Wireless announced the cancellation of the 2026 festival, promising ticket holders a full refund.
The controversy stems from the festival's decision to book Ye despite his history of antisemitic remarks and alignment with Nazism. Politicians, celebrities, and organizations representing British Jewish people have voiced strong condemnation of the festival, pointing to offenses such as the release of a song titled "Heil Hitler" and the sale of a swastika T-shirt.
British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, described the booking as “deeply concerning,” leading several brands to withdraw their sponsorships from the festival.
Melvin Benn, head of Festival Republic, Wireless' parent company, initially defended the booking, advocating for forgiveness. West then released a statement echoing his January apology in The Wall Street Journal, titled “To Those I’ve Hurt,” expressing his intention to “present a show of change, bringing unity, peace, and love through my music” in London and a desire to “meet with members of the Jewish community in the UK in person, to listen.”
However, Starmer stated that West “should never have been invited to headline Wireless” and that the government would “always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.”
