Wireless Festival Faces Sponsorship Exodus Over **Ye** (Kanye West) Headlining Gig

Last summer, the Slovak music festival Rubicon was canceled shortly after organizers faced backlash for booking Kanye West as its headliner. In January, the artist now going by Ye issued an apology disavowing his previous alignment with right-wing ideologies and embrace of Nazi rhetoric. He attributed his behavior to bipolar disorder and a brain injury, committing to "accountability, treatment, and meaningful change." Two months later, he dropped his new album BULLY.

Somehow, Ye is still scheduled to headline all three nights at this July's Wireless Festival in London. However, the event's fate is uncertain after companies withdrew sponsorships following comments by Keir Starmer: "It is deeply concerning that Kanye West has been booked to perform at Wireless despite his previous antisemitic remarks and celebration of Nazism," the UK Prime Minister said. "Antisemitism in any form is abhorrent and must be confronted clearly and firmly wherever it appears. Everyone has a responsibility to ensure Britain is a place where Jewish people feel safe and secure."

After Starmer's remarks, a Pepsi spokesperson stated: "Pepsi has decided to withdraw its sponsorship of Wireless festival."

Diageo, parent brand of Johnnie Walker and Captain Morgan, followed Pepsi’s lead on Sunday (Mar. 5), also withdrawing. ā€œWe have informed the organizers of our concerns, and as it stands, Diageo will not sponsor the 2026 Wireless festival,ā€ the company stated.

Although Wireless still appears to be proceeding, Ye might be denied entry into the UK. Immigration rules allow denying entry to individuals whose character or conduct is considered threatening. Prominent UK politicians like Ed Davey have requested the government ban Ye from entering.

Fortunately for Ye, he seems to be booking shows in the US without much difficulty. He headlined SoFi Stadium outside of Los Angeles last Wednesday and Friday, live-debuting BULLY tracks and older hits. Travis Scott, Lauryn Hill, Don Toliver, CeeLo Green, and his daughter North West made onstage appearances across both nights.
