AI Sabotage? FBI Director Kash Patel's Video Channels Beastie Boys in Bizarre Parody
A promotional video by FBI Director Kash Patel is raising eyebrows for its apparent AI-generated recreation of the Beastie Boys' iconic 'Sabotage' music video.

The Beastie Boys and FBI Director Kash Patel have found themselves in the news recently – the Beasties due to Mike D's solo single and tour, and Patel for other reasons. Now, an odd connection unites them: a social media video posted by Patel that appears to use AI to mimic the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" video.
Last Monday, Patel shared a promotional video highlighting the FBI's efforts to combat "fraud," including cases against the Southern Poverty Law Center. The video is set to the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage," and it seems unlikely Patel secured permission to use the song. Furthermore, the video replicates shots from the Spike Jonze-directed 1994 "Sabotage" video.
The original "Sabotage" video parodied opening montages from '70s cop shows. Patel's video attempts to portray the ridiculous as heroic, featuring FBI agents on rooftops with binoculars. NPR consulted with AI experts who suggested that Patel's video was "likely" AI-generated. Several shots from Patel's video mirror shots from the Beastie Boys clip, complete with AI-generated glitches.
