A significant moment for fans of the pioneering hip-hop trio, Mike D (Michael Diamond) is gearing up to drop Thank You, his first full-length album since the Beastie Boys' 2011 swansong, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. The album is slated for an August 28 release through Fontana.
This comeback was heralded last month with the release of two singles, the infectious “Switch Up” and the contemplative “What We Got.” These tracks offered a tantalizing preview of Mike D's evolving sound, which he also showcased during a series of low-key UK shows with his Mike D 5D band.
Speaking on the new project, Mike D shared his motivations in a press release: “It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and I have grown to really appreciate in our collaboration. And I just hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious, because let’s be real, I’m releasing this music into a very strange and dark and power-fixated world that really devalues art and feelings and compassion and empathy and equality.” His statement underscores a desire for authentic connection and artistic integrity in a challenging cultural landscape.
