Britney Spears' DUI Arrest: British Accent, Lasagna Offers, and "Drastic Mood Swings" Revealed in Police Report

Newly released arrest records detail the bizarre circumstances surrounding Britney Spears' DUI arrest in California last March. According to The New York Times, officers reported that the singer exhibited “drastic mood swings,” spoke in a British accent, and even offered to make officers lasagna at her nearby home.

The incident occurred on March 4 in Ventura County. Spears, 44, admitted to consuming one mimosa several hours prior to the arrest but denied being intoxicated. The California Highway Patrol report states that police found unprescribed Adderall and an empty wine glass in her convertible BMW.

“I could drink probably four bottles of wine and take care of you, I’m an angel,” Spears allegedly said when asked about her sobriety level. Breath tests reportedly showed blood alcohol concentrations of .05 percent and .06 percent, below the legal limit of .08 percent.

According to the arresting officer, “Her mood changed from confrontational and agitated to flamboyant and compliant,” adding, “She also appeared to speak with a British accent at times.”

CHP video reportedly shows Spears speaking in a childlike voice, apologizing for swerving into other lanes, and inviting officers to her home, offering, “I’ll make you food or lasagna or whatever you want. I have a pool.”

Spears’ lawyer, Michael A. Goldstein, declined to comment on the specific allegations but stated that the pop star “intends to comply with the conditions imposed by the court as part of the disposition reached with the Ventura County DA.”

Earlier this month, Goldstein negotiated a no-jail plea deal, reducing the DUI charge to a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. He told Rolling Stone at the time, “She’s doing well.”

When asked if his client was pleased with the resolution, he added, “I don’t think anybody is happy about pleading guilty,” but considered it a good outcome given the circumstances. “We appreciate the district attorney recognizing the positive steps Britney has taken to help herself, and we expect that she’ll continue to do so,” Goldstein said.

Spears received a sentence of 12 months of summary probation and must submit to searches requested by law enforcement while driving. The judge also barred her from using controlled substances without a prescription and mandated continued mental health and substance treatment, including weekly meetings with her psychologist and twice-monthly visits with her psychiatrist, as well as a three-month DUI class.

Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko stated, “One of the key components of the disposition this morning was to make sure Ms. Spears continues to undergo her mental health and substance abuse treatment regimen. We are wholly in support of her doing so.”

He also noted that Spears would have a diminished expectation of privacy in her car and must submit to tests for alcohol or drugs if stopped. Furthermore, her wet reckless charge is “priorable,” meaning a subsequent DUI within 10 years would be treated as a second offense. However, Nasarenko acknowledged that Spears demonstrated responsibility by voluntarily entering a rehabilitation facility.

Police initially detained Spears after receiving reports of a BMW “driving erratically at a high rate of speed.” Officers reported that she “showed signs of impairment and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests,” leading to her arrest and subsequent release.

Her manager described the incident as “unfortunate” and “inexcusable” in a statement, adding, “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
