BTS Returns with 'ARIRANG': A Deep Dive into Their First Album in Six Years
BTS ARMY rejoice! After a long wait, the global superstars have dropped their new album 'ARIRANG,' showcasing a mature and refined sound. This article explores the album's themes, collaborations, and upcoming promotional activities.
ARMY, the moment is finally here! BTS's new album, ARIRANG, has arrived, marking the highly anticipated comeback of the world's biggest boy band.
The album boasts 14 tracks featuring production from industry heavyweights like Diplo, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, Mike WiLL Made-It, and Ryan Tedder. Released on Friday, March 20th, the LP presents RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook in a more mature and artistically refined light.
Keeping anticipation at a fever pitch, the septet opted against releasing a single ahead of the LP, instead dropping all tracks simultaneously: “Body to Body,” “Hooligan,” “Aliens,” “FYA,” “2.0,” “No. 29,” “SWIM,” “Merry Go Round,” “NORMAL,” “Like Animals,” “they don’t know ’bout us,” “One More Night,” “Please,” and “Into the Sun.”
The Bangtan Boys last released a full-length album in 2020, with Be debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. That same year, BTS topped the Billboard Hot 100 with hits like “Life Goes On” and “Dynamite,” followed by “Butter,” “Permission to Dance,” and “My Universe” with Coldplay. At the peak of their success, the members began enlisting in the South Korean military to fulfill mandatory service requirements, while also pursuing solo releases.
Following the discharge of the last member, the group immediately returned to the studio. In a GQ cover story leading up to the release of ARIRANG, Suga promised a "diversity of genres," while RM described it as "truly the whole package."
BigHit Music explained that the album's title, ARIRANG, is inspired by a traditional Korean folk song. The label described it as:
> “Transcending time and generations, the song has long been associated with emotions of connection, distance, and reunion... a deeply reflective body of work that explores BTS’ ‘identity and roots.’”
To celebrate the release, BTS will hold a comeback concert at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on Saturday, March 21st. Following that, they will travel to New York City for a Spotify fan event and appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In April, the band will embark on a global stadium tour.
