Dua Lipa Sues Samsung for $15 Million Over Unauthorized Image Use
Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, alleging unauthorized use of her image on television boxes. The lawsuit cites copyright and trademark infringement, as well as violation of her right of publicity.

Dua Lipa is taking action against Samsung, filing a $15 million lawsuit on Friday, May 8th, alleging the company has been using her image without permission or compensation to promote and sell televisions.
The lawsuit claims that Samsung "prominently featured" an unauthorized image of the pop star, of which she owns the registered copyright, on Samsung television boxes for retail sale throughout 2025 and 2026. The legal action includes complaints of copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and violation of Dua Lipa's right of publicity.
Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP filed civil action documents with the United States District Court in the Central District of California. The documents state Dua Lipa became aware of Samsung's unauthorized use of her image in June 2025 and immediately demanded the electronics company cease and desist. The law firm asserts, "Samsung has refused to comply with Ms. Lipa’s repeated demands that it cease and desist from infringing on her rights by the continued exploitation of the Infringing Products. Samsung’s response has been dismissive and callous, and the Infringing Products remain on the market to this day, still being sold throughout the country in ongoing acts of willful infringement."
According to the complaint, “Samsung’s willful and deliberate misconduct has caused, and continues to cause, substantial, manifest, and irreparable harm to Ms. Lipa, while enriching Samsung at her expense. By this lawsuit, Ms. Lipa seeks to bring Samsung’s conduct to a stop and to obtain damages for Samsung’s theft of her intellectual and personal identity assets.”
The court documents include an image of Dua Lipa featured on a Samsung TV box, which the plaintiff states is registered to the artist, who retains sole ownership of the copyright. The image is described as being taken backstage at Austin City Limits in 2024.
Social media posts from Dua Lipa fans showcasing the Samsung product in question are also featured in the complaint. One fan's post is quoted as saying, “I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it.”
The lawsuit emphasizes Dua Lipa's commercial success in music and her history of earning revenue through approved usage of her image for campaigns with major brands, including Puma, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Porsche, Apple, Chanel, Tiffany & Co., the 2026 Winter Olympics, Bvlgari, and Nespresso.
Dua Lipa's notable achievements include two hit studio albums: 2020’s Future Nostalgia, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and 2024’s Radical Optimism, which debuted at No. 2, alongside three Grammy Awards.
