Dua Lipa Sues Samsung for $15 Million Over Unauthorized Use of Her Image on TV Boxes
Dua Lipa is suing Samsung for at least $15 million, alleging the company used her image without permission on television packaging, capitalizing on her fame to boost sales.

Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against Samsung, seeking “no less than $15 million” in damages for alleged copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and misappropriation of her likeness. The lawsuit centers around Samsung's use of her image on cardboard packaging for some of its televisions, which the singer claims was done without her consent.
According to the complaint, filed on May 8 in the United States District Court for California’s Central District, Samsung prominently featured a photograph of Dua Lipa on boxes for various television models sold across the United States. The image, allegedly taken backstage at Austin City Limits in 2024, is copyright-protected and owned by Lipa. The lawsuit claims that Samsung used the image without her knowledge or permission. Representatives for Lipa and Samsung have been contacted for comment.
The issue came to light in June 2025 when social media users began noticing the “Dua Lipa TV Box.” The lawsuit highlights Instagram comments, including one user stating they would “get that TV just because Dua is on it,” and another commenting, “If you need anything selling just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it.” The lawsuit asserts that “Samsung’s copying and distribution of the DL Image constitutes willful copyright and trademark infringement, and a violation of Ms. Lipa’s right of publicity, designed to improperly capitalize on Ms. Lipa’s hard-earned success to promote and sell Samsung’s products.”
The lawsuit further alleges that Samsung ignored “repeated demands” from Dua Lipa to remove the packaging from the market. The complaint states that a cease-and-desist request was initially sent last year, but Samsung's response was “dismissive and callous.” The suit accuses the company of “arrogance in refusing to stop its infringement,” claiming a “conscious disregard of Ms. Lipa’s intellectual property and personal identity rights” and “capitalizing on the implied (false) association with Ms. Lipa as a sponsor of Samsung’s mass-marketed television sets in the boxes on which she is prominently featured.”
