Eurovision Song Contest Asia: Bangkok to Host Inaugural Edition
The Eurovision Song Contest is expanding to Asia, with the first edition set to take place in Bangkok this fall. Ten countries have already signed up for the competition, with more expected to join.

The dazzling spectacle of Eurovision is crossing continents, bringing its unique brand of pop exuberance to Asia.
The inaugural Asian edition of the famed song contest will culminate with a grand finale on November 14th in Bangkok. Participating countries will hold national selection shows to choose their representatives, with 10 nations already confirmed and more anticipated to join the festivities.
The initial lineup of competing countries includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. Organizers expect additional countries to join the competition soon.
This expansion coincides with Eurovision's 70th-anniversary celebrations. Martin Green, Eurovision’s director, stated that “it feels especially meaningful to open this next chapter with Asia, a region rich in culture, creativity and talent.”

He added, “This is about evolving Eurovision together with Asia, building something that reflects the voices, identities, and ambitions of the region, while staying true to what has always made the Contest special. Eurovision Song Contest Asia will be shaped by the artists, broadcasters, and audiences who make it their own, continuing our shared journey of being United by Music.”
This venture marks Eurovision’s second major attempt at international expansion, following the launch of the American Song Contest in 2022, which was hosted by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson. The American Song Contest failed to gain traction and was not renewed after its first season.
Meanwhile, the Eurovision 2026 finals and semi-finals are scheduled for this May, with Austria as the host country. However, several countries, including Slovenia, Iceland, Ireland, Spain, and the Netherlands, are boycotting this year’s contest over Israel’s inclusion due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Russia remains banned from competing since 2022 due to the war in Ukraine.
