Foo Fighters Unleash Raw New Single 'Of All People' Ahead of Album Release

The Foo Fighters have dropped a new single, “Of All People.” This high-energy track is the fourth release from their highly anticipated 12th LP, Your Favorite Toy, slated for release on April 24.

“Of All People” showcases frontman Dave Grohl grappling with the complexities of life's inequities. "Of all people, you survived/ When no one else could stay alive," he belts out in this aggressive rock anthem. "You know you should be dead/ But you’re alive instead."

Last month, Grohl revealed to The Guardian the inspiration behind “Of All People”: an encounter with a drug dealer from the '90s.

"I hadn’t seen them in 30 years, and they’re alive, healthy and sober," Grohl stated. "I was so happy that this person survived, while at the same time, I was devastated, because of all of the people I know that we’ve lost to exactly that drug. I was so fucking angry, but at the same time so grateful to see them alive and well. Again, a conversation within myself, feeling so conflicted and divided. When I read the lyrics back, I mentioned them to my therapist: Is this survivor’s guilt?”

The Foo Fighters initially announced My Favorite Toy in February alongside the release of the album's title track. According to Grohl, "‘Your Favorite Toy’ really was the key that unlocked the tone and energetic direction of the new album. We stumbled upon it after experimenting with different sounds and dynamics for over a year, and the day it took shape I knew that we had to follow its lead. It was the fuse to the powder keg of songs we wound up recording for this record. It feels new."

The band recorded the album, featuring the previously unveiled “Asking for a Friend,” at home in collaboration with co-producer Oliver Roman. This marks the first recording with their new drummer, Ilan Rubin.

Your Favorite Toy is set to launch just two weeks before their performance at the Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida, on May 8. Following this, they'll grace the stage at Bottlerock Napa Valley on May 23, before heading off for a series of European shows. The Foos will then make their way back to North America for a show at Toronto’s Rogers Stadium on Aug. 4, with dates stretching into late September. Joining them as support acts for the majority of these shows are Queens of the Stone Age and Mannequin Pussy.
