Friko Announces Sophomore Album 'Something Worth Waiting For,' Shares Bowie-esque Single

Friko captured our attention with their 2024 debut album, Where we’ve been, Where we go from here. Now, they're gearing up to release the follow-up, Something Worth Waiting For, slated to drop in April. To tide us over, they've unveiled the lead single, "Seven Degrees."

The young Chicago rockers collaborated with producer John Congleton on the new LP. "On our first record we were much more involved in the technical aspect of everything, but this time John made it clear that he wanted us to just come in and do our thing," drummer Bailey Minzenberger says. "I think that allowed us to let go in a way that we never had before, and because of that we captured something very raw."

"Seven Degrees" embodies that raw energy. It's a power ballad, reminiscent of early Bowie, delivered with dramatic flair by Niko Kapetan. Fans of prime Arcade Fire or Bright Eyes might also find something to love here. "For a long time I thought the saying was 'seven degrees of separation' and not 'six,'" he says. "There’s a lightness to that song but really it’s about connection, and trying to stay close to the people you care about."
