Fucked Up Unveils Ambitious 'Year Of The Monkey' with Hardcore Legends
Fucked Up continues their Zodiac series with 'Year Of The Monkey,' a sprawling project featuring an operatic narrative and a host of guest vocalists, including hardcore icons.
Fucked Up are known for their ambitious projects, but their current undertaking might be their most expansive yet. For decades, the band has been releasing lengthy 12" singles dedicated to the years of the Chinese Zodiac. They're culminating this project with a massive new series called Grass Can Move Stones, comprising three Zodiac records spread across 10 sides of vinyl. The first installment was Year Of The Goat, released in December. Now, they've announced Year Of The Monkey, set to arrive in June, accompanied by a wealth of new music.
Grass Can Move Stones weaves together an operatic narrative, featuring various guest vocalists portraying different characters. (You can delve into the Year Of The Monkey story here.) Longtime Fucked Up frontman Damian Abraham embodies the Monkey, while Tuka Mohammed takes on the role of the Good Goat. Year Of The Monkey boasts contributions from artists like Destroyer's Dan Bejar, Duchess Says' Annie-Claude Deschênes, Crocodiles' Brandon Welchez, Lame's Sally Morreadora, and Carson McHone. Notably, the project also includes hardcore legends such as Negative Approach/ Laughing Hyenas' John Brannon, Circle Jerks/ OFF!'s Keith Morris, Converge's Jacob Bannon, Gorilla Biscuits/ Quicksand's Walter Schreifels, and Cursed/ Left For Dead's Chris Colohan.
Today, Fucked Up has unveiled two new tracks: the 26-minute "Looking For Heaven And Not Finding It" and the 27-minute "Before Us Tigers Stood." These tracks showcase the band's signature wild musical twists and turns, maintaining a ferocious energy that prevents any sense of pretension. Listen to both tracks below.
