In a characteristic stroke of genius, or perhaps just delightful eccentricity, Jack White has once again announced a new album without a traditional press release. The reveal for his seventh solo effort, Frozen Charlotte, was subtly embedded within the second installment of Third Man Records' Release Lab video series, a supposed educational deep dive into the label's marketing strategies.

The video, primarily focusing on the campaign for White's 2024 album No Name (which famously appeared in customers' bags at Third Man Records shops), takes an unexpected turn around the 24-minute mark. A roundtable discussion among Third Man Records executives is briefly interrupted by a black-and-white, signal-jacked sequence. A chrome skull-helmeted figure, identified as "FROZEN CHARLATAN," flashes a sign declaring "NEW ALBUM" before an album cover quickly appears on screen.

That album, Frozen Charlotte, is set for release on July 10 and is already available for pre-order on Third Man's website. The label describes the 13-track LP as showcasing Jack White "at his best," backed by a formidable band featuring Patrick Keeler on drums, Dominic Davis on bass, and Bobby Emmett on keys.

Recorded in White's Third Man Records studio in Nashville, the album promises to carry on the "raucous, raw, and frenetic energy" of No Name. It's heralded as an "intense rock and roll punch with never far behind blues underpinnings," designed to appeal to long-time fans while welcoming new listeners.

Fans have already had a taste of Frozen Charlotte with the tracks "G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs" and "Derecho Demonico," both released in April and performed on SNL. "G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs" even contains the evocative lyric: "I'm a penny dreadful and a frozen Charlotte / and I need some more sense."

The album's intriguing title stems directly from White's recent foray into visual art. "Frozen Charlotte" is the name of a series of sculptures currently on display at Damien Hirst's Newport Street Gallery in London, marking White's debut art exhibition.

While Jack White himself has yet to directly address the album, he has been sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of his "Frozen Charlotte" sculptures on Instagram. In a recent post, he offered a compelling explanation of their origin:

> "Frozen Charlotte" 2025 Jack White III.
> An old carnival prize chalkware statue from the 1940's of a sailor boy falls over in my recording studio and its head breaks off. I grab a nearby blue skull shaker percussion object and glue it in the head's place. I paint the body white and suddenly an all new character avatar that I called "Frozen Charlotte" came to life. A "frozen Charlotte" is a penny doll toy from victorian times, they were ceramic but could float or have a dress put over, recalling an old folk song about a girl who froze to death from not dressing properly in the winter. I wanted to make the modern version of chalk ware of the 40's and 50's which to me is 3D printed plastic. We took the piece to be scanned and CAD filed in order to make more of her with the help of Daniel Birkhead at @pr3nter_inc and my good man Daniel Mancini facilitating. Then sanding, priming, spraying back at my own shop to create numerous avatars of her including a male trixter hero version named the "Frozen Charlatan" who is the chrome metallic alter ego. Some of them felt like they needed to include the original broken off sailor's head. Many versions of the sculpture started to come out of me, different personalities and characters, some to mimic the fast airbrush style of cheap carnival prizes made assembly line style, and some more elaborately painted, all of which are in the art show." -JWIII

Many of these pieces are on display and for sale at the "These Thoughts May Disappear" exhibition at the Newport Street Gallery in London until September 13th.
