Jay-Z to Headline Roots Picnic Ahead of 'Reasonable Doubt' Anniversary

Jay-Z is officially making a grand return to the stage! He's slated to headline the highly anticipated The Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. The annual festival announced on Tuesday that the 56-year-old icon will perform alongside The Roots at the Belmont Plateau on May 30.

The festival is scheduled for May 30 and May 31, with more performers to be announced soon. Tickets are currently available for purchase. This performance aligns with the upcoming 30th anniversary of his groundbreaking debut album, Reasonable Doubt, originally released in June 1996.

Adding to the excitement, Jay-Z recently made his 1996 single “Dead Presidents” available on digital platforms for the first time. He also released limited edition vinyl, cassette, and CD versions of the classic track produced by Ski.

Fans have also spotted clues suggesting a deeper celebration of Reasonable Doubt. The flyer promoting his Roots Picnic set features Jay-Z’s name with the umlaut, a stylistic choice used for the initial release of the album.

Jay-Z last graced the stage in 2025 during the Cowboy Carter tour, joining Beyoncé for a memorable duet of “Crazy in Love” during the Paris show. He also famously performed with Beyoncé at the Global Citizen Festival 2018.

The history between Jay-Z and The Roots goes way back to the Nineties, with The Roots serving as his backing band for his 2001 MTV Unplugged performance. Rumors are swirling about potential new music from Jay-Z to commemorate the Reasonable Doubt anniversary, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

His last studio album, 4:44, dropped in 2017. The album was a critical darling and earned several Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
