Former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra was hospitalized after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke, which caused numbness on the left side of his body.

The 67-year-old punk rocker reassured fans of his stable condition and ongoing recovery via an Instagram post. “I still have a lot of great stuff in me, but right now I gotta lotta of rehabbing to do,” Biafra stated.

Born Eric Boucher, Biafra attributed the stroke to high blood pressure. The incident occurred when he attempted to get out of bed on Saturday night. “My left leg just collapsed under me and I fell to the floor,” Biafra recounted. “I couldn’t even break the fall with my left arm because it wasn’t working either. I tried to hop back up again, and I couldn’t.”

Displaying his characteristic humor, he quipped, “I realized I had ‘fallen and I can’t get up!’” referencing the iconic Life Alert commercials.

Alternative Tentacles, Biafra’s independent label, has pledged to provide updates on his progress. “Speaking for the Alternative Tentacles family, we are all just very thankful he is okay and getting the care that he needs,” the label shared.

Biafra fronted the Dead Kennedys from 1978 until their initial split in 1986. The band later reunited in 2001 without him.

Recently, Biafra criticized the current lineup of the band for agreeing to perform at this year’s Punk in the Park festival, citing the owner Cameron Collins’ support for Donald Trump. “The real Dead Kennedys would never have let this happen in the first place,” Biafra told Stereogum. “One more sordid reason I don’t ever want to play with them again.” The festival has since been canceled.
