Michael Jackson's The Essential Extends U.K. Chart Reign Following Biopic Buzz
Michael Jackson's The Essential Michael Jackson secures a second week at No. 1 on the U.K. charts, fueled by renewed interest following the release of the Michael biopic.

Michael Jackson is experiencing a resurgence on the U.K. charts. The Essential Michael Jackson has claimed the No. 1 spot on the Official Albums Chart for a second consecutive week, as of May 15.
The compilation held off Westlife’s new album, 25 – The Ultimate Collection, which debuted at No. 2 after leading in midweek projections. This marks the Irish boyband’s 15th Top 10 LP in the U.K.
The renewed interest in Jackson’s music follows the recent release of the Michael biopic. The film has significantly boosted streaming numbers and physical sales across his entire discography. The Essential previously returned to No. 1 for the first time in 17 years on May 8 and has now solidified its position at the top.
Elsewhere on the charts, Noah Kahan’s The Great Divide climbed to No. 3, while Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving landed at No. 4. Jackson also has another album in the Top 5, with the 1982 classic Thriller rising to No. 5.
Sheffield indie band Reverend and The Makers made a strong return to the Top 10 with Is This How Happiness Feels? debuting at No. 7. This is their third U.K. Top 10 entry, following their 2007 breakthrough The State of Things and 2023's Heatwave in the Cold North. Frontman Jon McClure told the Official Charts Company, “Number 1 Official Independent album and a third Top Ten. Enjoying being a chart veteran!”
Harry Styles’ Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. re-entered the chart at No. 9, coinciding with his Together, Together Tour, which begins this weekend in Amsterdam.
Katy Perry's compilation, The One That Got the Plays, debuted at No. 13, while her 2010 album Teenage Dream rose to No. 36. Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft also made a comeback to the Top 40, landing at No. 32.
