New Forensic Report Reignites Debate Around Kurt Cobain's Death

Seattle police have responded to a new report questioning the circumstances surrounding the death of Kurt Cobain, the iconic frontman of Nirvana. The report suggests that Cobain may have been murdered, reigniting decades-old conspiracy theories.

Cobain was found dead in his home in 1994 at the age of 27. The King County Medical Examiner ruled his death a suicide, caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. However, this ruling has been disputed by some, leading to various theories suggesting foul play.

A team of forensic scientists, working with independent researcher Michelle Wilkins and specialist Brian Burnett, has presented new claims based on their examination of the evidence.

According to reports in the Daily Mail and LADBible, the team spent three days reviewing crime scene materials and identified alleged inconsistencies that contradict the original autopsy verdict.

The team claims to have conducted an “exhaustive” review of autopsy documents and compiled their findings in a peer-reviewed paper accepted for publication in the International Journal of Forensic Science.

Burnett, an expert in deaths involving drug overdose followed by gunshot trauma, told the Daily Mail, “This is a homicide. We’ve got to do something about this.” The team suggests that one or more individuals may have been involved in Cobain’s death, potentially forcing a heroin overdose on the singer before firing the fatal shot.

The report cites alleged inconsistencies in the official autopsy, including organ damage inconsistent with shotgun deaths, questions about the shotgun shell's location, and the cleanliness of Cobain's hands. They also allege discrepancies in the handwriting found in his suicide note.

In response to these claims, a spokesperson for the Medical Examiner’s Office reaffirmed their initial autopsy ruling.

"King County Medical Examiner’s Office worked with the local law enforcement agency, conducted a full autopsy, and followed all of its procedures in coming to the determination of the manner of death as a suicide," the spokesperson stated.

They added that they would consider revisiting the case if new evidence emerged but that "we’ve seen nothing to date that would warrant re-opening of this case and our previous determination of death.”

The Seattle police also released a statement (via Loudwire): “Our detective concluded that he died by suicide and this continues to be the position held by this department.”

Wilkins has urged authorities to re-examine the case, stating that they were “not even looking at your evidence”.

“If we’re wrong, just prove it to us. That’s all we asked them to do,” Wilkins added.
